Life isn't getting anymore predictable

My team left Dallas in early August to head back to Denver for transition week (aka trainings and meetings.) We also got a week of vacation; I took the opportunity to visit my friends in San Francisco and then my family in Chicago. It was a much, much needed break.

Just as my team was about to leave for our next project in Washington DC, we were notified that we would instead be going to Lexington, Kentucky. We were quite disappointed to say the least.

Our current project has us going out into schools and senior centers to educate youth and senior citizens about disasters. As someone who HATES presenting, this has been a tough job for me. I tend to dread work every day right now. Fortunately, I see the light at the end of the tunnel: we should only be in Lexington for a couple more weeks, not to mention there are only 58 days remaining in the program. Hallelujah!

To clarify, I do not regret doing AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA. It has just been very difficult to follow FEMA's orders. Some days we have no work; other days we are worked to the bone. Essentially, I am ready for the next chapter in my life to begin.

On a side note, my group and I did a service project for Three Springs Farm. TSF is located an hour away from Lexington, and it is where my dedication to community service began 4 years ago during my freshman year of college. I did my first Alternative Break at TSF, and fell in love with both the farm and Alternative Breaks. It was great to see the family again, not to mention the dog, cat, and goats.
