In just a few days, all Corps Members of the Denver campus will be driving to Vicksburg, Mississippi for FEMA Corps Academy where we will be trained as a team in our specific task (as I mentioned before, my team’s task is Disaster Survivor Assistance). We have much to do to prepare, including:
Presenting team travel plans to FEMA Corps staff
Learning maintenance for the cargo vans
Cleaning for room inspections
Checking out supplies
Induction Ceremony
Packing all our belongings into an overnight bag (!)
Unless our first round project is located in Denver, we will not be returning to campus after FEMA Corps Academy. This means whatever we don't bring in our overnight bag will remain in Denver until we come back for Transition Week 1 in May.
We also had Team Role trainings today. Every team member has a role, ranging from Recruiter to Physical Trainer to Vehicle Service Technician. My role is Media Representative. My duties include:
Provide postings for Facebook & Twitter
Take photos for FEMA Corps yearbook
Write overviews of project rounds
Create slideshows & media reports after each round
Write press releases
Create final video (this is my own goal)
Hopefully this is the first step to becoming a National Geographic contributor :)
